Rick is a Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science graduate from the University of Saskatchewan, and he participated in the Next 36 program in 2018. Over his university career, he was heavily involved in extracurricular activities including coordinating a college-wide science and engineering exhibition, founding an RC aero design team, and participating in numerous engineering and public speaking competitions.

Coming from a family with deep farming roots, Rick has always been passionate about agriculture and sustainability. He has helped start several agricultural technology companies and is currently working on a venture called FarmTRX which is focused on developing advanced precision agricultural technologies for farms of all sizes.
