Florian Shkurti is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. He is a faculty member of the University of Toronto's Robotics Institute and a fellow of the NSERC Canadian Robotics Network (NCRN). He conducts research at the intersection of autonomous mobile robotics, informed by machine learning, computer vision, and control. The main problems he is interested in are: decision making and control under uncertainty, imitation learning, inverse reinforcement learning, continual learning, as well as autonomous visual exploration and search. The main application areas of his work are in collaborative human-robot environmental monitoring, as well as field robotics in challenging unstructured environments. He did his PhD at the Mobile Robotics Lab at McGill University under Gregory Dudek, and before that he did his undergraduate degree in computer science and mathematics at the University of Toronto. He is a recipient of the Alexander Graham Bell Doctoral Award, the AAAI Robotics Fellowship, and the Coxeter Scholarship in Mathematics.
