NEXT Canada believes in founder development – a unique blend of mentorship, education and networking that inspires driven Canadians to disrupt industries and build something with global impact.

NEXT Canada delivers four programs:
Next 36, Next Founders, NextAI and NextED.

Next 36 logo

Next 36 is NEXT Canada’s flagship program. Each year 36 of Canada’s top students from a variety of academic disciplines are chosen through a rigorous selection process to join the program. Over eight months, these young entrepreneurs are provided with mentorship from some of Canada's top entrepreneurial and business leaders, up to $80K in seed funding, co-working space in downtown Toronto and founder development education from award-winning faculty.

Venture stage: Idea/Early
Cohort size: Approximately 36 entrepreneurs selected

Who should apply
· Students or recent graduates
· New and pre-existing teams (you don’t need a company to apply)
· Pre-revenue and pre-seed investment startups
· Scalable, high-growth venture ideas

Applications open:
August 2019
Applications close: October 2019
Program runs: January - May 2020 (remote), May - August 2020 (in Toronto)

Meet the Next 36 alumni


Next Founders logo

Next Founders is a flexible program designed for founders of startups looking to scale quickly. Throughout the program, participants build relationships with an extraordinary community of peers, business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors and develop innovative approaches that can be immediately applied to their business. The program includes an intense Immersion Week, followed by optional à la carte style programming available throughout the summer.

Venture stage: Seed/Growth
Cohort size: Approximately 20 founders selected

Who should apply
· Founders/CEOs of ventures with a founding team in place
· Ventures who have reached key milestones (Ex: Revenue, funding, users)
· Scalable, high-growth ventures

Applications open: February 2019
Applications close: March 2019
Program runs: Late April 2019 (immersion block), April - August 2019 (opt-in)

Next Founders alumni

NextAI logo

Launched in 2017, NextAI is a global innovation hub for artificial intelligence related venture creation and technology commercialization. We identify talented individuals and teams with ambitious ideas and give them the tools they need to disrupt industries. NextAI teams have access to up to $200K in capital, technical and business education from world-renowned faculty and scientists, a network of Canada’s top business leaders and entrepreneurs, and access to cutting edge AI tools. NextAI is delivered in two of Canada’s AI hotbeds: Montréal and Toronto. NextAI - Montréal is delivered in partnership with HEC Montréal.

Venture stage: Idea/Early
Cohort size: 10-20 teams selected

Who should apply

· Entrepreneurs with business or technical expertise
· Entrepreneurs that are passionate about solving a problem using AI
· New and pre-existing teams (you don't need a company to apply)
· Applicants of all ages, from all countries, from any educational background

Applications open: September 20, 2018
Individual applications close: November 11, 2018
Team applications close: December 2, 2018
Program runs: February - September 2019 (full time in Toronto May - September)

NextAI alumni



NextED is Canada's premier AI adoption program for businesses.

With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Canadian businesses need to not only prepare, but equip themselves with skills to be competitive in this new data-driven economy.

In 2019, NEXT Canada, through the launch of NextED, is offering a unique program for employees of large and medium-sized enterprises. The program will help participants understand the implications of data and AI as well as create strategy and technical insights to adopt AI into their businesses. The course is delivered through a new online platform powered by Riff Learning, a spin-out company of MIT Media Lab.

Value of the Course: $5,500 per participant
Course Duration: 8 weeks online; 8-12 hours per week
