Robert is an experienced electronic systems designer and ambitious entrepreneur. He is currently in his third year of the electrical engineering program at the University of Calgary with a specialization in biomedical engineering and minor in entrepreneurship. In April 2017, Robert was awarded an NSERC USRA scholarship for academic excellence. The award funded his full-time summer research position under Dr. Martin Mintchev at the University of Calgary. His research directly led to the filing of a provisional patent for a novel autonomous wearable whole blood sample extraction, collection and analysis device. Robert is CTO and a co-founder of e-Mosquito Inc., founded based on successful pre-clinical testing of the aforementioned patent pending technology in addition to intellectual property developed by his business partner Dr. Gang Wang. Robert has a passion for product design and has worked closely with local Calgary entrepreneur Ken Cheung to help bring the MotionHeat Heated Vest to market. Robert takes pride in his ability to use technology to help others overcome obstacles in their lives. In August 2017, he participated in the Tikkun Olam Makers 72 hour make-a-thon alongside 3 fellow undergraduate students, the event provided the opportunity to help a 12-year-old boy with autism further grasp speech. The team achieved incredible success, creating Aut2Talk, a customizable video dictionary mobile application that was featured at Beakerhead 2017 and is available on the Google Play store. In addition to his academic, entrepreneurial and volunteer pursuits Robert leads a healthy active lifestyle that includes a year-round daily 20km cycling commute as well as intramural hockey and spending time in the neighboring Rocky Mountains snowboarding, hiking and backcountry camping.
