David Del Balso

Commerce & Computer Science, Queens University at Kingston (Queens University), 2017

David Del Balso is a 3rd year student at Queen’s University double majoring in commerce and computer science. At Queen’s David is a co-chair for the Queen’s Technology and Media Association (QTMA). QTMA aims to bridge the gap between leading companies in the technology industry and Queen’s Commerce students by offering computer programming lessons, publishing industry research, and organizing networking events. David is also part of the Queen’s University Investment Counsel (QUIC), a ~$900,000 investment fund. David is a portfolio manager for the ~$30,000 Cash Yield portfolio which invests in REITs and real estate focused companies listed on the TSX. 

This summer David worked in Toronto as an investment banking analyst at Acasta Capital. During that time he helped Acasta launch their $350mm special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), Acasta Enterprises. Acasta Enterprises became the second largest SPAC IPO ever in North America, and one of the fastest deals from idea origination to closing. Prior to that, David worked as an intern at Investors Group in Toronto. 

Previously, David attended St. Michael’s College School in Toronto. At St. Mike’s David captained the varsity soccer team to a 4th place finish in AAAA OFSAA and was named MVP. His other interests include alpine sports, rock climbing, computer programming and playing guitar. During the upcoming winter term David will be travelling to Barcelona to complete a semester abroad at ESADE Business School in Spain.
