Nikita Zhitkevich is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Medical Sciences at the University of Western Ontario. He has worked at the Cerebral Systems Laboratory on analysis of imaging data to develop a state of the art anatomical reference for functional comparisons using SPM and Freesurfer analysis packages. He is also an active member within the Space Society of London and an active member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. In his second year of study he participated in Western University's first annual Science Case Competition, where his group placed seventh among fifty competing groups. In the case competition his group explored the CRISPR/Cas9 gene modification system and wrote a paper titled "Gene Editing of ΔF508 Mutation using CRISPR/Cas9 Mechanism" exploring the effects of this system on Cystic Fibrosis. In his free time he enjoys reading up on world news pertaining to geopolitical issues as well as exploring new research pertaining to the development of drugs for neurological diseases.
